Attended 30 January 2013 – great entertainment

A great evening listening to The Eastern, “a string band that roars like a punk band, that swings like a gospel band, that drinks like a country band, that works like a bar band, that hopes like folk singers, and sings love songs like union songs, and writes union songs like love songs, and wants to slow dance and stand on tables, all at the same time” – their website definition. Toe tapping hour and a half.

Not your usual art gallery exhibition, but a packed atrium enjoyed guitar, banjo, fiddle harmony and folk singing along with the storytelling about Lyttleton Harbour, their home town, and characters met on their tours.  This was an unexpected pleasure and a group that I will go and see anytime they’re in my area.  Highly recommended.
