Visited May 2013 – ‘Hamilton artists’ Exhibition

some of Hamilton’s most talented contemporary artists with illustration, painting, sculpture, carving and installation – See more at: https://www.thejamesgallery.co.nz/reviews#sthash.1CFuVpVK.dpuf

Hamilton contemporary art installations, paintings, sculptures and illustrations was interesting – not really my favourite type of artwork.  A quiet gallery which allowed time to have an interesting talk with artist/owner Elliot Mason who offers commissioned works in his unique style.  Exhibition runs til May 25th.

Visited March 2013 – ‘Local Talent’ Exhibition

Exhibition of local artists including Peter Wallers, Dave Roy, Peter Cramond, Lynette Fisher, Antony Warnes, Cheryl Oliver, Owne Dippie, Skye Carson-Wilson, Nick Eggleston, Simone Anderson, Anie Fourie, Richard MacDonald, Beudean Cotton and Elliot Mason.  Some interesting art better seen at a time other than the opening as works tend to be obscured by those celebrating the opening with drinks.  Hopefully more interaction from artists or gallery staff will be forthcoming in the future as those admiring the artworks were primarily left alone, and chose to wonder off without purchasing.

Visited February 2013 – Opening

This gallery opened on 22nd February in the 11th Avenue, Tauranga by local artist Elliot Mason in property previously housing Harrisons Gallery.  The gallery walls were covered in Elliots beautiful and interesting works – originals, prints and lovely small versions available.  With little foot traffic in this gallery area it will be interesting to see what will draw people to this gallery in the future – as monthly exhibitions promoted heavily by Harrisons was the only reason I attended this area.
