In December 2013 I visited the Gallery of Modern Art in Queensland as a friend had heard of this amazing exhibition – Cai Gui-Qiang: Falling Back to Earth which includes four installations. These are extraordinary and will be there until 16 March 2014 – highly recommended for anyone in the family – a must see.
Heritage 2013 features 99 replicas of animals from around the world, gathered to drink from a blue lake surrounded by pristine white sand. Everything looks so lifelike and you can walk all around the gathering, a drip from the ceiling shows ripples on the beautiful water creating that feeling of reality.
Eucalyptus 2013 is a huge old tree you can walk around, and under, and wonder at the sheer size of these trees.
Head on 2006 is a striking installation of 99 artificial wolves leaping en masse into a glass wall – a truly thought provoking and amazing thing to wander around, under and just be a part of. A surprising installation which entranced and excited the many children on the hot day I visited this gallery.
