Attended April at the Tauranga Art Gallery – Bond Street Bridge presents The Explorers Club: Antartica.

An evening of Sam Prebble and his band of troubadours presented original folk songs, rousing tales of icy adventure, stunning heritage photographs and original illustrations – sounded interesting – in reality this was an evening of music which started with melancholy troubadour songs which had some ticket holders leaving early.  A shame, as the second half of the evening was a spectacular presentation of excerpts from Sir Ernest Shackleton and Robert Falcon Scott’s diaries with talented musical pieces which gave you a feeling of the expanse and wilderness of Antartica.  Each piece was accompanied by interesting photos of those expeditions and the performance built in intensity throughout the evening.

The eveing ended with an encore of a John Lennon piece which showed the groups lighter side – I found it to be an interesting evening – a performance by talented artists.  Definitely worth it – I look forward to what this group develops in the future.
