Mr Owen R Lee (1918-2003) Art Master at St Peter’s 1946 – 1955
An Artist and a teacher who was born in Christchurch and studied at the university of Canterbury School of Fine Arts 1933 – 1939.
He first started painting with his older brother William H Lee who encouraged and supported Owen through University. He would ride out into the country around Christchurch on the back of William’s bicyle and they would both paint. William was Owen’s first art teacher and bought him his first paints.
Owen Lee spent a large part of his life in the North Island, living nine years in Cambridge and 18 years in Auckland, where he was head of art at Takapuna Grammar School.
He also studied in Brittany in 1955. he exhibited many times at the Paris Salon and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Artists.
