Auckland Art Gallery

Visited the Auckland Art Gallery Toi O Tamaki and viewed several of the exhibitions but found the artworks of Rita Angus the most memorable.  Colin McCahon’s large pieces also worth a long look but the more contemporary works don’t hold my interest personally.  The Maori Portraits: Gottfried Lindauer’s New Zealand is an amazing collection of […]

Christchurch Art Gallery

A visit recently to Christchurch Art Gallery was a delight in two ways. Firstly, the exhibitions;  Tony de Lautour distinctive paintings and sculptures, 19th and 20th Century New Zealand Art, the weight of sunlight and more.  I absolutely loved the wall which included Doris Lusk, and other cubist style artworks.  Always interesting to discuss works […]

PG Gallery 192

While walking along Bealey Avenue I was lucky to come upon PG gallery at 192 Bealey Avenue, representing contemporary artists in a lovely old home.  I was particularly drawn to Nigel Buxton artworks –  exhibition of seven works on paper which describe and explore interior space.  These were interesting works which tugged at your perception […]

Laughing Pottery Studio

A pottery studio with plenty of space which included a leather mask exhibition and some artworks and pottery by other potters other than Andrew Killick.  I enjoyed my time spent discussing the various works and the studio and art in general. Always good to view new artists and interesting pieces of work.

Pippa Le Lievre

Pippa has a delightful artist studio  Wildflower Art Studio in Kuaotunu Village in the Coromandel.  I met Pippa at the opening exhibition evening of the Mercury Bay Art Escape weekend which is the first two weekends in March.  She is outgoing and interesting to talk to and discuss art with.  Her lovely and well priced […]

Reina Cottier Art

Reina’s studio in Tairua was a lovely place to visit during the Mercury Bay Art Escape as she has vibrant, colourful artworks, cards, calendars and gifts.  Her work is a slight blend of culture with what I would call Coromandel art colours – bright blues, reds and greens.  Her work is a breath of fresh […]

bread & butter gallery

A gallery with plenty to see on two levels in the town centre of Whitianga displaying paintings, prints, local artists works and glass works.  A gallery to take some time in for a gift, or just to view some lovely artworks.  I particularly liked Grant Simpson local seascapes and glass plates which seemed as if […]
