This beautiful crayon on paper work by Don Binney was on loan to the Tauranga Art Gallery for the ‘Diversity’ exhibition in February 2013. The label read :
“When I first saw this work in the auction catalogue it was just a lovely picture, beautiful colours, obviously a New Zealand scene, but knowing it was by Don Binney made it very special. His love of the environment shows in his work, and this work like many others he created, represents the landscape in a pure, clean style with the crayon leaving a hint of texture and movement. Don Binney, who was a patron of the Hauturu (little Barrier Island) Protection Society created many works showing Hauturu from different locations, I think this one is particularly beautiful. I bought this work like many I own – sight unseen, bidding by telephone, depending on the auction house assessment, hoping that it would be every bit as satisfying in person as in the glossy catalogue. I cant imagine any artwork produced by Don Binney ever being a disappointment.”
