Albumen photographic print by George D Valentine who visited the Pink and White Terraces in 1885 showing the Pink Terrace, Lake Rotomahana as shown in John Leech Gallery Ltd exhibition “The Lost 8th Wonder” in July 2011.
“This image shows a waka pulled up to the base of the Pink Terraces, Lake Rotomahana. The waka was used to ferry tourists to and from the pink and white terraces. A site considered to be one of the wonders of the world. The terraces were destroyed during the eruption of Mount Tarawera, 10th June 1886. Inscirbed in plate: Pink Terrace, L Rotomahana. 55 (Plate number) G.V.” As stated in the Certificate if Authenticity from John Gow, Director of John Leech Gallery Gow Lansford Gallery that accompanies this print.
Print has been treated, is framed with a tasteful 30mm timber frame around a cream matt board, glass protected and kept in a no sunlight environment for preservation. Actual print size is 181 x 285mm.
